Patau-Patau Village is a beautiful and historic water village, inhabited for over 100 years by the Brunei-Malay community who migrated to Labuan in the early 18th century. Its name derives from the word patau, meaning “net float.”
This village is renowned for its distinctive traditional architecture, reflecting the local wisdom and heritage of the Brunei-Malay people. Houses are built on stilts over the water using belian, kulimpapa and nibong wood, connected by an intricate network of walkways. This layout embodies the community’s cultural identity and the harmonious way of life of its residents, many of whom are fishermen or self-employed entrepreneurs.
Led by a village head, the community here is close-knit, functioning much like a large extended family. Visitors can experience its traditional lifestyle and enjoy signature dishes such as ambuyat, lamban and kelupis.
